Barbara completed a Bachelor of Architecture with Honours at the University of Toronto where she received honours in design in second, fourth and fifth years. As a practitioner for over forty years, she has been associated with some of the major design firms in Toronto and Vancouver. Barbara played a major role in the design of several prestigious university facilities, schools and theatre design projects, residential and urban mixed-use, assisted living facilities and conservation projects.
As principal of the firm, Architects Barbara Dewhirst André Lessard, Barbara was responsible for the planning, design, client contact, and approvals for all the projects. From 2012 until February 2016, Barbara was a Senior Facility Planning Leader for Fraser Health, responsible for strategic planning for the BC Cancer Agency and asset management of their portfolio of buildings and services throughout BC.
Barbara is a LEED Accredited Professional and a former member of the Architectural Institute of British Columbia, the Ontario Association of Architects and the Royal Architectural Institute of Canada. Barbara now lives on Gabriola Island.
